I am Pablo Piskunow. I trained as a theoretical physicist and spent about a decade doing numerical work on quantum transport, then moved into industry and have been building data and machine learning systems since.
What carried over from research is the habit of building the tool when the tool does not exist. Most of my published work rests on simulations I had to write first, and that is still how I approach products.
